FAQs

General

Several factors like your home location, angle of your roof, roof shading, and how old your home is determine if your home is good for solar. Contact us so we can generate a solar report for your home. We’ll only recommend solar if it’s the right fit for your home energy needs.

Every household will need a different number of panels based on how much energy it uses, the climate in the area, and how much direct sunlight hits its roof. We’ll determine how much energy a home solar system will need to produce to power your home during your free consultation.

Solar costs have gone down up to 70% the last ten years due to government subsidies to support a cleaner and more green environment. With the PPA Plan, qualified homeowners can go solar with zero out of pocket because all equipment and installations costs are covered in the plan. You just need to pay for power, and the rates are also much lower than what your utility provider charges you. It’s savings right away as soon as you get your first solar power bill.

Levelized Power Purchase Agreement

The PPA works exactly the same as your current utility provider. You only pay for power. Traditional utility providers typically raise your rates 6-15% a year. Sunrun’s PPA Plan keeps you at a protected rate for the term of your agreement. You basically lower your electric bill once you start the program. Sunrun owns, monitors, maintains, and services all solar equipment at no cost to you.

In the PPA program, you will never pay for equipment and installation costs. You will have $0 out of pocket throughout the whole process until your solar power is turned on. Your home must pass inspection (roof and electrical panel in structurally sound condition).

  • Qualified homeowner (if we are able to design a system that fits on your roof to produce the power that you need locally, you may be a qualified homeowner)
  • Average monthly bill is over $50
  • Live in an active zip code that offers PPA

Sunrun’s revenues come from either the equipment (Solar Purchase Plans) or the power produced by the equipment (PPA and Solar Lease Plans). With the PPA, majority of the equipment costs are subsidized by Federal credits balanced by revenues earned from the electricity the solar panels produce. This is similar to how you pay your power company for the electricity you use. The power company owns and maintains all of their equipment. Sunrun can also offer you better rates because they don’t have the high costs of maintenance that the traditional utility providers do like aging infrastructure and wildfire liabilities.

With a solar lease, you pay a fixed monthly “rent” to use the home solar system. With a PPA, you pay a fixed price for the power the system produces.

Each city has its own regulations, and not all areas allow PPA. If the PPA is not offered in your area, the Solar Lease is the next best option if you are leaning towards the PPA Plan.
